A Little Bit About Me...

During my high school career I was frequently called upon to be a teacher's assistant. This was over fourth, fifth, and sixth graders the majority of the time. I also tutored a fellow classmate in Algebra q, chemistry and biology. I also currently have a job tutoring two sixth graders in math and english. They were at a third grade level when I began and are now into the beginning of fifth grade work. I have only been working with them for approximately two months.

Once I have an understanding of what a student is capable of I like to push them to go past their "comfort zone" in learning. It helps them understand that what may look difficult, may not always be so and that they only way to find out is to learn it. Also, I do not teach study habits. Instead I like to see what a students current habits are and work on expanding those habits so that the child does not get frustrated and overwhelmed. It is easier to learn more from current knowledge than try to teach a whole new way. After all, most students study habits are based on how their teacher has taught them, and I wouldn't go against what the teacher has taught. I do not have a particular style of teaching. I prefer to talk to the individual I am tutoring and together discover the best way to teach them the subject material. I believe that everyone learns information at a different pace and that some information is easier to process than other information.
