My comments on tutoring Math : I have had a great deal of experience in this subject.

I like to cooperate with the student, finding their strengths and weaknesses in order to improve their chance of success. I am very careful to zero in on what the student needs and eliminate anything that is already known. In other words, I do not like to waste the learners time with facts that they know but concentrate on what needs to be learned.
I have a BS in Education with a Comprehensive Science specialty - 7th to 12th grades. I have taught science in the classroom, but I changed after I got married to tutoring. In the past few years I have spent most of my time tutoring math and GED. This has been done in both a private and classroom setting. A Little Bit About Me...

Once I have an understanding of what a student is capable of I like to push them to go past their "comfort zone" in learning. It helps them understand that what may look difficult, may not always be so and that they only way to find out is to learn it. Also, I do not teach study habits. Instead I like to see what a students current habits are and work on expanding those habits so that the child does not get frustrated and overwhelmed. It is easier to learn more from current knowledge than try to teach a whole new way. After all, most students study habits are based on how their teacher has taught them, and I wouldn't go against what the teacher has taught.
