I prefer a relaxed relaltionship with students regardless of their age. I do not try to force anything, rather comfortably explain things on a level that can be understood by the student. I try to have fun with the subject, and make it interesting on the student's level of understanding/experience. I realize some students may not be comfortable in a remedial situation, and try to encourage participation in a non-threatening manner.
Earned degree 1966-Have traveled multiple times in Europe where I have successfully used the French language in French speaking and non-French speaking areas. Have tutored for two years through two different services. I very much enjoy helping others to learn another language, and have fun with it. I am also qualified to tutor basic math and reading.

During the last three years, I have been the theory teacher at Clavier Werke School of Music in Austin, TX, where I have prepared students for exams, and have taught them the fundamentals of theory, and ear training. My teaching style is to discover what each student needs to learn in order to be successful. I teach in a way that is most effective with that student. I have found that students can make rapid progress when they have an opportunity to fill in the gaps of their skills and knowledge. Over the years, I have learned many strategies to help students acquire the skills they need. I help students to build on their strengths as they overcome their academic weaknesses. I have also learned that students learn more quickly when the lesson is interesting to them, so I choose reading material for a lesson with that in mind. I find that students truly enjoy their lessons, because they gain confidence and realize that they are able to be successful.
My teaching career has been devoted to helping individual students achieve their potential. I have taught struggling students at all grade level ... read more

As a University of Richmond graduate, I earned a BA in business administration from the Robins School of Business, which is rated by The Princeton Review as one of the nation's top undergraduate business schools. Also, U of R is a liberal arts university, which means I have been educated at a high level in a variety of subjects, such as English, Math, Spanish, Art, and Science. My analytical and grammatical skills have been developed by the many essays, research papers, and presentations I have completed. I was a student athlete, which forced me to learn the value of time management, hard work, and dedication in order to excel both in the classroom and on the football field. At U of R, I served as a counselor for youth football camps.

I have always enjoyed working with children and have learned throughout the years, that all children learn differently. I have used various teaching methods as I encounter each child's learning ability. I am willing to learn and try new things, as I have realized that there are always new methods of learning. I am patient, professional, considerate, and understanding. My goal when working with children is to make them feel confident in their attempts. Failures are a learning experience that help lead to great accomplishments when given alternatives for change and improvement. I want to be a positive inspiration in how they learn. I want to be the door to new beginning or at least better horizons when it comes to learning.

I feel that all children have the capacity to learn but may not always thrive in a typical classroom setting. They may feel lost or intimidated in a large class and are not able to speak up and express their questions or concerns. Individualized attention through tutoring can give the child confidence in the classroom, but also in everyday life. I am a very patient and caring person who is genuinely interested in the progress and success of children. I believe all children can thrive with the proper instuctions, surroundings, and attention. I will be able to provide your child with what they need to learn material and gain confidence.
