A Little Bit About Me...

I am very passionate about working and helping students. I have the approach that all students can learn and be strong in any subject, but some students learn differently than others. Some students just need a different approach to certain areas, and more one-on-one help. However, I do believe that the student also has a responsibility to try to better oneself and not depend on someone to give them the answers, but this does not mean that they do not need a little help along the way. I am very easy going and patient. I strive for the moment when a student feels that they cannot do something or figure something out, and then they do figure it out or understand. After graduating from MTSU, I went to Prague, Czech Republic to train and work as a teacher of English as a foreign language. I secured a position at Bell School International. Here I taught mostly adult students but I also had a few high school classes. I found it was more satisfying teaching the younger students and so I looked for work at the elementary level. At Horackova Elementary, I taught 6th to 9th grade English. I had a great rapport with all the students and enjoyed planning for the array of levels and age groups. However, I was the only teacher there who spoke English and felt alienated from the school. As a result, I made the difficult decision to return to the United States.

I have loved education and the process of learning since I was a child. Due to family issues, I dropped out at in the 9th grade but due to extensive reading most of my life on many subjects, and being gifted intellectually, thank God, I was enrolled in college at the age of 16. Due to my age, I lacked the discipline needed to succeed then so joined the Army at 18 and finished first in my class in their HS program. I continued going to college in the evenings an weekends until I completed my Master's degree, meanwhile raising 3 children and running a certified home daycare. I love helping people, particularly children, reach their full potential by becoming life-long learners. Whenever I meet with a student, whether it be one-on-oe or in the classroom, I strive to identify his/her learning style and to create a connection to the lesson to his/her future experiences in the world beyond the classroom.
