Over the past 12 years, I have worked in both the private and public sectors of the education community. I have taught grades 7-12 in all areas of science. I have also been the director of a learning center, where I started as a tutor. The years of experience have taught me a great deal about children of all ages and abilities. With each new year, I learn something new about myself and my style. Because science is a "hands-on" subject, I feel it is extremely important to use demonstrations, examples that are relevant to every-day life, experiments and anything else that will help students understand the world around them. Since students learn in many ways—by seeing and hearing; reflecting and acting; reasoning logically and intuitively; memorizing and visualizing,I provide various guidelines for how I want tasks completed in this course based upon student pool. Students might describe me as a knowledgeable coach who dispenses the fact, principles, and concepts they need and works closely with someone to correct problems in how they think and behave. I give students a lot of personal support and encouragement to do well in their course. As a supplemental Instructor/tutor at UMSL Department of Biology, I facilitate the learning process by explaining concepts and encouraging open communication with students. In addition, I conduct weekly review sessions to integrate how-to-learn with what-to-learn. I grade exams and laboratory reports.

I have four years teaching experience in all levels of education. I have been involved helping students improve their learning skills. My first teaching experience was as a high school senior where I was given the opportunity to teach a small group of 5th graders as part of the Missouri A+ program. We began with division, quickly moving into linear and nonlinear algebra, before touching on the fundamentals of complex numbers, graph theory and trigonometry, before concluding with a derivation of the quadratic formula and its applications. Also, I have a great teaching experience in biology in all fields of cell and molecular regulation and aslo ecology, evolution and systematics, including Anatomy and Physiology.
