I have taught Spanish at the middle and high school level for six years. Since I started teaching in the district where I currently work, the Spanish program has flourished, and requests for my classes exceed the space we have available for students. Students want to take my class because of my highly effective teaching style, which I described previously. I also have a year of experience tutoring various subjects a tthe middle and high school level. I have helped kids in Math, Science, English, and REading. As a teacher, I do my best to create fun lessons that are both challenging and thought-provoking. I like for my students to learn to use the language without really even trying, so I create activities in which they use the vocabulary and grammar that we have just studied in little bits. I just start where the questions are and help guide them to where they can find the answers. There is no better feeling than the feeling you get when a student has that light bulb go off and they finally catch on to a concept. I have an excellent background in all subjects and I have also worked in the construction industry. Therefore I am able to explain where this knowledge will be of value to the student in the future. I have taught in the public school systems for 40+ years. I retired when I hit the rule of 90, but found that I missed the kids. I then substitute taught in grades k - 12 for another 8 years to keep in contact with my profession.

I have substitute taught for two years in the Superior, WI school district. Most of that has been at the HS and MS levels. I have also substituted at Marshall School as well as ISD 709 in Duluth as a special ed paraprofessional. My experience there is principally at Morgan Park MS in the autism classroom. I have successfully tutored two students in Algebra, one is now a certified teacher in the state of Minnesota. I am patient and easygoing. I have two special needs children and my experience with them helps me to be understanding. I try to empbhasize learning the formulas that we use to solvbe the problems. If the students can understand how to solve a problem, then its just a matter of plugging the numbers in and their chance for success greatly improves.

I would very much like to enter the teaching world so that I might share the knowledge that I have acquired over the years. I feel I would be an excellent tutor as I would be very patient and understanding of the challenges for young students. I definitely believe we can and should be teachers for the next generation. I would strive to share my enthusiasm for math and science. As the manager and head chemist of a solid fuels testing laboratory I have many years of experience training both high school and college interns. I acquired a Bachelors of Science in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry from the University of MN, Duluth. I also have a broad math and physics background, and have a great enthusiasm for both.
