Individualized to meet student's needs I was a teacher of deaf and hard of hearing students of all ages and abilities for 33 years. I have a sign language background and use all modes of communication to assist students. My students varied in all ability levels from learning support to life skills in addition to hearing impairment. I feel that I can always learn something new everyday. I always wanted to teach but didn’t originally go that route. I have a BA in Speech Communications. I then went on to take some Sign language classes, but never felt complete. After about 5 years, I decided to follow my heart and go back to school and get a Teacher of the Handicapped Certification. I have had many experiences with a variety of disabilities including Hand in Hand, Special Olympics and teaching children with various disabilities in a classroom and one on one setting. I am currently a student at East Stroudsburg University, studying special education and psychology. I am just finished my first semester of student teaching and will be completing the second one in the fall, graduating in December. I have completed several hours tutoring for college of the past 3 years. I have also had two student teaching placements already. The first was in a third grade inclusion setting and the second in a k-2 life skills room. In both settings I was teaching all subjects on several different levels.
