Instead of telling the student the correct answer, I prefer to help them understand why the answer is correct. With writing, there can be better ways to word a sentence or rearrange a paragraph and I try to help them figure this out on their own. That way, the next time they run into a similar issue, they remember how they improved their writing the previous time.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a junior English major and Religious Studies minor at Rhodes College. I graduated from Harding Academy ('09), a school well known for its strong English department. The past two summers I have worked at Harding's summer camp as a counselor for first and second graders, so patience is definitely a trait that I have come to learn and appreciate. A Little Bit About Me...

After graduating from Vanderbilt University I taught 5th grade for 2 years while working on my Master's at TSU. I then moved to the Knoxville area and taught K until my son was born in 2000. We then moved to Wisconsin where I taught in various after school programs until my 2 children were old enough for preschool. I then went back part time and taught 4 K until my 3rd child was born in 2005. Throughout this entire time I tutored various children ages 8 - 15 years if age.
My teaching style can best be described as varied! I believe that children learn in numerous ways, so as an educator it is my responsibility to provide multiple experiences - visual, oral, tactile, etc. A person walking by my classroom would see children smiling, working in groups, accomplishing projects, and would hear noise.
