I used the Orton-Gillingham method for dyslexia and found that it really seemed to work well to suit the student’s needs. From there I went on to work two years in resource rooms working with middle school and high school students in a one-on-one and group setting for intense tutoring. I believe that any child can learn and that we all have various learning styles. We just have to find the style that is best for optimum learning. Some of us are visual learners and some are auditory learners, and many of us learn with a combination of styles. A Little Bit About Me...

Depending upon the prescribed materials used by the school or tutoring company, I have a student centered approach to teaching. I find which approach motivates an individual student; listening, reading, writing, speaking and ensure that that method is incorporated in to my lessons. I have also found that elementary age children often need to move around if I tutor them at the end of the day. I have a sense of humor, maintain classroom organization and enjoy knowing my students. The last day is a joy for them but always includes moment of nostalgia for me.

As a second career I wanted to put something back into my community. So as I went back to school a few years ago to complete my MBA, I thought that I wanted to teach in public schools. I was a non-traditional teacher. I therefore had to work as a substitute teacher and as a tutor because I am not yet certified. So I worked as Coach(Academic K-12)and I enjoy it.
