A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very matter-of-fact and flexible. Some students learn by listening, others by reading, and still more by doing. It is my job to determine which students need which type of teaching. It's important to never let the student feel I am judging his abilities in a negative manner while still making sure he learns from his mistakes.
When getting my Bachelor's degree, English was my chosen major. I chose the subject because I love to read and write, and excel at both of those things. In high school and college, I tutored middle and high school - aged children. I was able to find and help those kids because my parents were teachers; thus, so were their friends who needed tutors. I recently graduated from the University of Tennessee with a BA in psychology and a minor in child development. In my studies I have gained extensive knowledge on the growth and development of children and young adults. I have also learned various teaching and learning styles, problem solving techniques, and communication skills in which to facilitate the educational needs of children both individually and in small groups.

I believe learning should be fun. In my experience I have found that if a student has fun and laughs during a lesson, he/she will remember the contents of the lesson more. I strive to create memorable experiences for my students. I am also patient teacher. Ideally, my students learn by investigating and drawing their own conclusions.
