Experienced, university-quality instruction at low rates

I prefer face-to-face interaction, as language learning is a social experience. With that in mind, I am happy with one-on-one tutoring as well as small groups, even with different levels of experience. Also, language learning should be fun! While the basics such as vocabulary, rules of grammar, etc. are necessary, that does not mean instruction needs to be boring.
I recently completed my Master's degree in Portuguese at Brigham Young University. A Little Bit About Me...

Through skype so that the student can practice writing and speaking. I do this so that the students can feel more relaxed and so that no travel is required for lessons.
I'm 21 and have been speaking Portuguese (Brazilian) for my entire life because my family is from Brazil. I speak the dialect from Rio which is the dialect taught in schools there. I feel this is really helpful because both my English and Portuguese are really good and that helps when trying to explain certain aspects of the Portuguese language to native English speakers who are trying to learn.

I generally pick specific things someone needs to work on and prepare my lesson working only on that until there is sufficient progress to move on. When I teach I like to give examples of what we are working on and then allow some practice time to assess whether or not students understand the material. One of my teaching tools is making exercises that a student can take 15-20 minutes to complete outside of class and use it at the beginning of our next session as a quick review/Q&A opportunity. I prefer sitting at the student's elbow, with the assigned work in between us, focusing on it together. I talk about "it" rather than "you" to avoid making the student self-conscious. Writing can always be improved, and each student has areas of strength and weakness. I try to pick one area that needs the most attention, and focus on it. When there is significant improvement, I move on to the next area of weakness. Pointing out all of a student's mistakes and weaknesses at once drains morale, and that is counterproductive. Working on one area at a time keeps the student from being overwhelmed. I like to have the student read out loud to me, so that we can both see what needs improvement.
