I feel that repetition is one key that helps students grasp difficult concepts. I start by helping the student understand what the question is asking. Then I will do a problem step by step, showing the student what I am doing. Next, I will have the student do the same problem, but recreate the steps that I had shown them, guiding them along the way. After this type of practice, we will move on to similar problems, using the same steps that we previously used. I have found that this system helps me learn the information and retain it.
