A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a professional educator since 1986. I have taught Navajos, Hopis, Apaches, Mexicans, Arabs, and in two Multinational Schools in Saudi Arabia and to princesses in the Diplomatic Quarters of Riyadh. I have taught from k-12, been an adjunct professor for two campuses, taught special education, and human relations in alternative school settings. English as a Secondary Language, Business classes, human relationships and special education have been my areas of interest. In additional I have tutored a variety of students.

My teaching style is highly student focused. Instead of providing only textbook reading and writing my classroom focuses on having the students work hands on to create models of the systems they are learning so they can develop their own understanding of the material. I believe that all students should have an interest in the workings of biology especially related to the human body. A priority of mine is to make sure the students are not rushed in their learning. Though I received my degree last June, most of my teaching experience came while I was still learning. In high school, I worked as a museum docent for after-school programs - at one point trying to convince 3rd graders that M.C. Escher's life and work were as exciting as the afternoon TV they were missing. While in college, I worked for Apple computer, teaching adults in one-on-one tutoring sessions in computer usage. My method of studying for my finals was to show up to study groups not to learn the answers, but to reinforce my own learning by explaining the relevant topics to my peers.
