I am a student-oriented teacher and am willing to do all I can to make learning approaches applicable to each child’s needs. My goal in tutoring is to help the child connect with the subject at hand and develop a greater interest in learning, irrespective of the method used. My educational background in social work lends to a caring, compassionate, yet motivational approach. I taught elementary Art, P.E., and library class. In addition, I taught a 12th grade Transitions course, for a year in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. I frequently helped kids with their homework after school, as needed. As a student at Kansas State University, I have learned the importance of the pursuit of higher education. I have earned a BS in Psychology, an MS in Marriage and Family Therapy, and will pursue a PhD in Family Life Education and Consultation starting during the 2009-2010 school year. I have written a lot of essays and read numerous research papers. For over a year and a half, I have tutored students in English, psychology, mathematics and sciences. I enjoy teaching students how they learn. It is very important that students know their learning style. My goal is to help them learn how they best retain information. I believe that if a student is able to utilize all the senses that allow them to remember the information that they have received, it will build their confidence in the classroom and as they pursue higher education.

I have been driven my entire life to assist others. I started working in the health care industry as a CNA, 1979. I then went to college and obtained my social work degrees. I worked in various settings to include nursing homes, mental health centers, prisons, adolescent group homes and currently home health care, 1987 to 2009.
