I spent seven years teaching high school science.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style varies with audience. I believe that most students need to first understand what a question is asking, (we all assume what is being asked yet never give it a great deal of thought) then proceed to elaborate on the wrong answer. Study technique is to me a critical element in learning. This usually means SQ3R. I am not a talking head but rather an instigator of thought. I do believe that all children have the ability to learn the subjects however not all children are in the right mind to do so. My goal is to show in real world, understandable terms the subjects we will work on. I believe that if a child is explained the rules in terms and words he/she understands, then he/she will grasp the material and carry it with them into the future rather than trying to cram for an exam with no retention.

A Little Bit About Me...

I took Spanish throughout elementary, middle, and high school. I then took two Spanish courses in college. I've travelled to Latin America on four occasions and did fieldwork for my MA dissertation in Spanish. My level of spoken and written Spanish is high enough for tutoring at lower to intermediate levels. I spent 10 months in Brussels, Belgium. While living there I shared a flat with two native French speakers. I also took private French lessons for 5 months. I was also able to carryout day to day activities such as getting/giving directions, shopping at the grocery store, and going to the laundromat using my French. A Little Bit About Me...

While working with diverse deaf/hh and hearing students I have come to realize that every student is different. In realizing that, I know that no two students can be taught the same way. Two skills that I have developed and feel are crucial when working with students are patience and creativity.
Since graduating, I have taught at the Katzenbach School for the Deaf as well as the Florida School for the Deaf. I am currently teaching Physical Science and Language Arts to 8th graders at FSDB.
