My comments on tutoring Geography : I was a city planner for 5+ years, and understand GIS programs, mapping, and general geography very well. I excelled at this subject while in graduate school, as well as in my earlier studies.

I have mentored various people since 2000, in all types of subjects, including math, science, social sciences, English, writing, literature, and other related subjects. My academic record is very strong, and I believe empowering those I work with every single time. The only pre-requisites are that you have to be willing to learn, and learn how to learn.
I like to use the Socratic method, mainly by asking questions and challenging assumptions. In addition, I like to engage those I teach, challenging them to think about what they previously have not considered. I believe in building on successes, and offering constructive criticism, where appropriate.

Learning is a life-long endevour.

I have taught Spanish as well as tutored people in Spanish, music (guitar) and English composition. Also, I have some experience with teaching English as a Second Language. I taught beginning level Spanish to 8-12 graders for one year. I have tutored three different individuals in music (guitar) and love helping people to find out how to be creative in their pursuit of music. And, with English, I have tutored one individual with grammar and composition. I thoroughly enjoy writing, and have an eye for good writing.
I try to meet the needs of the prospective student, and teach them in a way that will be beneficial to them.

Most recently, I served as faculty for a study-abroad program in Tanzania for Earlham College. In addition to implementing all programmatic activities, I designed and taught a rigorous conservation course. Quality education has always been very important to me. Beginning in high school I volunteered as an educator for elementary children through the "Just Say No (to drugs and peer pressure)" program. At Earlham College I was a teaching assistant for several biology classes and took the initiative to lead a senior seminar for my peers. I paid for graduate school at the University of Michigan by teaching in the History Department all four semesters. I have been a substitute teacher at a private pre-K - 8 school.
In all my varied teaching situations, I strive to make the material exciting and relevant to the students. I am a lifelong learner too and my curiosity about the world ... read more

I have worked with students in all levels of elementary school through teaching as well as during my college year. Specifically I have been in classrooms of pre-k, kindergarten, third grade, fourth grade, and fifth grade. I find the enthusiasm and thinking of students in upper levels very intriguing. I graduated from Clemson University with a BA in Elementary Education in 2007. Upon graduating I have been in elementary classrooms as a teacher for three years. I enjoy working with children one on one. Allowing me to better understand their reasoning and thinking.
In my experiences I have found that children learn in many different ways. Based on this I feel that individualized attention to each student makes them more successful in school, as well as, in many life experiences. Children learn by doing. With this in mind I find the best teaching style for each child. ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a recent graduate with a Master of Science in Environmental Studies with a Conservation Biology concentration. This education has required that I become acquainted with a wide variety of subjects including mathematics and the natural sciences. This also entails having a high level of written and oral communication skills needed to bridge the gap between science, law, and policy. I have worked in the college setting as a community service coordinator and collaborated with several faculty to incorporate community service into their classroom curriculum in a wide variety of subjects.
My teaching style varies greatly depending on the needs of the student; however, I always try to meet the student first and then decide which approach will be the most effective. My philosophy of teaching revolves around the theory that a tutor or teacher's primary role is to support the student ... read more

It is my belief that every student yearns to acquire an education. Accordingly, it is the responsibility of the instructor to find that spark and create a learning regimen geared towards that students specific method of learning. I tend to lead by example in an effort to relate to the student. I find that this method of operation creates a sense of willingness from the student, as well as establishes a sense of trust.
As a graduate from UNC Charlotte, I was blessed with the opportunity to earn a B.A. in English, as well as a professional certification in techncial writing and editing, which has afforded me both knowledge and experience in both journalism and technical media. In addition, I have acquried extensive grammatical skills due to writing research papers, as well as conducting articles which were seen by more than 30,000 subscribers nationwide at my previous publication

I am a discussion based teacher. I prefer to engage the students higher level thinking with a questioning approach. I do not think that lecture or rote memorization are proper ways to educate a child. I believe that teachers affect a students learning not just through the subject but also through the real world examples that should be the core of all learning. Students will only reach their potential when they are challenged beyond what they feel they are capable.
I am blessed to have attended a college that prepared me for real world situations and classroom circumstances. I have achieved two bachelor's degrees, a BS in bible and a BS in elementary education. I have also achieved a master's in holistic education. These degree programs provided me with a grasp of all subject areas in the elementary portion of schooling. A Little Bit About Me...

After earning my teaching degree in English, I gained some middle school and high school teaching experience, then took a different path for some years. While earning my master's degree in reading education, I gained experience by helping teach children at Western Carolina University's reading clinic in Asheville. I have done some individual tutoring on my own, while searching for a position in my field. As an avid reader myself, I know the value of a sound reading ability. I try to instill that love of reading in my students.
I have found that children are very comfortable with me, which makes the learning process flow more smoothly. I was trained to discover the problems that prevent children from learning to read and absorb written material. Children learn in different ways, and I try to individualize my teaching methods to suit the individual child.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been working with chidlren and older students for a number of years: I started as a sport trainer and I continue as a language tutor. Every one has a different way of learning, to which has to correspond a certain way of teaching: this is extremely easy when teaching one-on-one. I believe in having fun while learning!
My teaching and tutoring experience began prior to completing the BA in Foreign Languages: I had been teaching and tutoring English and Latin to a few Italian students. After graduating and moving to the USA, I started tutoring Latin and Italian to American students. I have always been drawn towards languages, and I find it easy to understand not only the different grammatical principles but also the different culture each language represents. Every time I am learning or teaching languages, I find myself to be enthusiast about explaining even the smallest gramm ... read more

I have a somewhat relaxed teaching style that does not compromise the distinction or respect between student and teacher. This teaching style results in a classroom atmosphere where students feel comfortable responding to my questions and asking for further clarification about complex topics. Many students have told me that my teaching style is refreshing and they feel comfortable in class.
With my numerous experiences in education, I think I could be a great asset in helping students become more knowledgeable. I have worked as a Tutor, Assistant Teacher, and did a short placement as an Interim Teacher. I can easily adjust to changing environments that will best suit the student’s potential. I was a Tutor in an after school program, and was an Assistant Teacher in a Special Education classroom. I finished an Interim Teaching placement in a middle school A.P. English classroom.

Yes, I do love teaching and yes, I do believe that all children can learn and be successful. I believe that most children are more intelligent than generally thought, but some may need help in showing "how smart they are." I challenge students to perform at high levels and used multisensory techniques to give them the opportunity to learn necessary skills for achieving. I believe in using both discovery and direct instruction methods for students to learn. I have been called a "constructivist" teacher. I believe that I have made a difference in the lives of students I have taught over the years.
I have been a Reading - Title I - Teacher in High School and in Elementary School (K-5) in Buncombe County North Carolina, a classroom teacher in grades 1-6 in bush Alaska. As a graduate in one of the top liberal arts colleges in the nation, I received an education that enhanced my skills as a writer, as a leader, and as a thinker. I worked as an assistant teacher for the Spanish department where I conducted speaking drills to improve the proficiency of Spanish for elementary level students. I also frequently led class discussions to garner confidence in speaking Spanish. During my senior year at Davidson College, I researched and wrote a thirty-five page thesis regarding the portrayal of women in two Latin American dictatorship novels. I currently work in the mental health field providing primary care and guidance to youths. I enjoy sharing with them the knowledge I have gained throughout my life.
