Before heading over to college, I tutored children whose ages range from pre-school to high school. I tutored them in math, science, grammar, and piano. Class size ranged from 1 to 15. My teaching philosophy is to help students understand chemistry through four modalities: reading, listening, seeing and hands-on learning. To explain ideas in chemistry I can use various teaching aids such as 3-D models, chemistry-writing software, and visual demonstrations. I also try to relate chemistry to student’s real world experiences.

My comments on tutoring Entrance Exams : I have prepared quite a few of my GED graduates for the Accuplacer test, a placement test used before entering some local colleges, such as Sinclair Community College. If unprepared, a student may have to take as many as three developmental classes in reading, writing, and math. That means they may wind up taking up to nine total, unnecessary courses that drain their financial aid, as well as time, gas, energy, etc...

Individualized/personalized... After each class/session my mind is always going through, "How can I better teach/reach that student?" In addition to my many years of experience teaching a myriad of subjects, I can provide you with additional, tailor-made, book lists, & free websites/APPs (and show you how to access them, if need be)... I have taken education classes at Northern Kentucky University. At one point, I was considering on being a Art Teacher. I didn't finish with that path, but I did gain much experience with children and knowledge during that time in working with students. I have worked and studied special needs children as well. I still consider going back for a Master's at some point in education. I think this job would be beneficial in my goals, and for my students, and a great learning experience for us both.
I am not overbearing. I am laid back, but at the same time, I make sure that the student learns what he/she needs to learn. I am very patient. I try to respect the student and not make learning seem like a chore. A Little Bit About Me...

When I substitute for a teacher, I want to see a lesson plan. I do not want to be the classroom babysitter. If there is no plan for the day I involve the students in making one. I'm currently working on obtaining my teaching certificate, to go along with my bachelors degree in Social Science. Hopefully, I will be able to go on to receive my Masters in Education.
