I'm currently attending Jones County Junior College through online classes. I will be attending Hinds Community College in the spring of 2012. I have a 28 on the ACT including a 33 in reading, 28 in english and math, and 26 in science. I at tented East Rankin Academy in Pelahatchie, MS. I was selected to multiple academic competions such as the ABC testing and Quiz and Science bowl I prefer to figure out how the student learns the best personally, whether through just hearing it or being shown examples and anything and everything in-between. I want to teach students how to not only memorize the material but actually understand the material so they will be able to use that as building blocks forward in their education.

I work with students on a hands on, personalized instructional manner. I teach study skills as well as subject knowledge. I have worked with children throughout college, both in academic and nonacademic settings. I worked on a family literacy program at the Mississippi Childrens Museum, called Planting the Seeds to Read, which entailed teaching children literacy skills and coaching parents in literacy strategies for home. I teach at Canton Young Filmmakers Workshops every summer.

Earned Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education from University of Memphis in 1991. Taught in preschool from 1992 until 1993 in Concord, CA. Taught my own children from Kindergarten through 12th grade. My teaching style includes more than one style because different children learn in different ways. For example, a child may learn by doing(I would use the demonstration-performance method). Another may be an auditory learner where I would use the lecture method, on a child's age level of course. While a different child may be a visual learner and in that case I would use many visual aids as well as do a lot of independent reading. Without testing, I would not know the child's exact learning style and therefore, would employ all three teaching methods/styles so as to maximize the learning experience. The child chooses the style. What I mean by this is that every child is different and every one of them learn differently. Teaching on a more personal level is how to aid the best results. I have over 18 years helping students academically. In the Jackson Public School District I initiated an after school tutorial program to help student who were falling behind in reading math and language arts. As the Accelerated Reading Assistant in the library I was able to use the program to help students to progressively become fluent readers. From this experience starting in 2002-2005 I began offering offer tutorial services to parents on weekend which many accepted for a small fee.
