This is one of my top subjects! Chess is one of my top subjects!I have played chess for 15 years recreationally, and truly enjoy the game.

I have experience in English, advanced reading and writing skills due to Advanced Placement classes I took in high school. I have 15 years experience in playing chess recreationally and joined various chess clubs in school. I worked as a tutor/teaching assistant at Kumon Math & Reading Center, tutoring children ages 4-14. I also spent time as a freelance proofreader and beta reader for a website, Agent Query connect for aspiring authors.

As a engineer I have been training operators in everything form SPC to troubleshooting for 30 years. I am a volunteer tutor for Adult ESL & GED for the Literacy Council of Williamson County since June 2009. I have worked with adults. I prefer a one on one direct instruction and mentoring, keeping everything simple and fun. I am not sure how well I would be with children; I have none of my own and have not spent much time with my nephews and nieces. I have worked with a few of my friends children, helping them understand algebra, showing them how simple it really is and how it can be fun.

My goal when working with students is to fully describe the steps necessary to solving various classes of problems, often in an outline form, for it is in learning these steps that a student becomes an independent learner. I like to work through as many examples as the student needs, gradually working them into the problem-solving process, until they are able to work a few completely on their own, or, in some way, demonstrate understanding of the material. Of course, this method is a little easier to employ in one on one tutoring sessions, but even with my work in the classroom, I feel student participation is crucial to the learning environment. While in college (1988-1994), I worked as a grader in the math department, with a goal of providing useful feedback to the students. I also began working as a tutor at Austin Community College (ACC) in their free learning labs at this time.
