As a graduate teaching assistant at Michigan State University, I taught undergraduate level pre-calculus courses. I then taught high school mathematics courses, general mathematics through pre-calculus, at Pequannock Township High School in New Jersey for 5 years. For the last 28 years I have been a pension actuary and consultant to large pension plans, during which time I have made numerous presentations to plan trustees and participants, and have also taught the basic pension course for the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries.

A Little Bit About Me...

Have been tutoring both high school and college students in mathematics for 13 years. I have tutored students in algebra, geometry, precalculus, calculus, and statistics. I have tutored both student that were struggling to pass and also students who just wanted to improve their performance but were doing satisfactorily without help.
Allowing the student to make mistakes and then learn from them. Allow the student to show me not only the correct answer but also to be able to explain how they came to that answer. Preaching to a student and doing the problem for them and hoping that they can then figure out future problems of the same type is in my opinion a subpar teaching style.

After graduating from college with a BA, I began working for an environmental restoration and public education program. We led large volunteer groups sometime of more than 100 people, in local park and forest restoration event, and also led youth groups on 10 day restoration and hiking trips in the national forest. After this I worked for a program that places tutors in schools that are in need, where i tutored K-5 students in reading, led a ESL class of about 10 students, and worked as a teachers assistant in the class room. I have spent the last several years at a monastery where I have had experience mentoring and working with the public in meditation programs.
