Sign Language is one of my top subjects! Currently, I am working as a community and educational interpreter. I completed an interpreter training program several years ago and have been signing for over 12 years.

I am flexible. Sign language can only be learned through repetition and practice, so there will be a lot of voice-off communication exchanges. Depending on the learning style of the student, I have several resources that can be incorporated into my lessons. Also, I prefer to know the goal of students to focus on specific vocabulary, if necessary, in effort to refrain from learning "extra" signs if becoming fluent in American Sign Language is not their goal.

Through my 13 years of professional work in the sign language field, I have tutored and taught sign language and have mainly worked as a sign language interpreter for the Deaf and hearing community. Currently and for all of my professional years of interpreting, I have worked in the educational setting interpreting for mainstreamed Deaf and hard of hearing students at both high school and college level. There are many things that I have to offer a student interested in learning sign, the language itself and also the culture associated with American Sign.
It is best to learn sign language in person. Signs are done from the hands and facial expressions and is best learned in person.

It's true that every student learns at a different pace with a different style. I like to see myself as a cameleon teacher, catering my format to individual needs. My style tends to be laid back so that students are comfortable expressing their likes and dislikes with me, curbing their fear of not understanding something.
