I am a graduate of Marywood University 2010 with a degree in Mathematics/Secondary Education. For two years I participated in an Academic Excellence program at Marywood. My position was a math tutor at a "drop-in" center. It was here that my peers could come at anytime to be tutored in any mathematics subject. I try to tailor my style to the student. Each student I had tutored when I was in college I had basically spoke with them, got to learn what they strong points were, their weaknesses, and areas that needed more base learning. I tailored lesson plans to help fill in their educational gaps, created small weekly assignments, and also helped with their current homework/lesson plan. I believe everyone learns in different ways. Some are more visual, others are more auditory so I tried to not only explain but also show by using whatever tools necessary/applicable (graphs, pictures, charts, etc.)

Teaching is a difficult task. Everyone learns at a different pace and on their own level. Some students are quick learners and their teacher only needs to go over the lesson once; other students need to hear the subject content in a different form to understand it. Having said that, I can't explain my teaching style as a cut and dry formula. The skill level of each student and the way they process information will determine how I will present them with questions and explanations. I don't believe in teaching every student with the same teaching style; I believe in conforming to the skill level of the student so that at the end of the day, they learn the topic we set out to conquer.

While attending Centenary College, I ascertained the skills necessary to overcome any mathematical problem or situation that may come my way. I also was enrolled in the Mathematics Honor Society where I tutored students for the Math Praxis Exam for my entire senior year. By doing this, I learned how to best approach tutoring sessions in order to understand where the person is coming from and what skills are necessary to help them understand their questions.
