A Little Bit About Me...

I truly enjoy helping others learn, and enjoy the challenge of finding the best way to help them learn. I have a patient, friendly, outgoing attitude & have worked with students from age 7-17.
During college, I discovered how much I truly enjoyed learning, and that drove me to take every elective course I could fit into my class schedule. I hold a BA in Biology, with a minor in Spanish. I also participated extensively in the music program as a pianist, participating in recitals, accompanying soloists & groups, and teaching piano lessons.

A Little Bit About Me...

I do believe that all children learn differently and my FIRST goal is to find out how that child learns best and go around the child's needs---not expecting the child to learn how I teach and limit that child. Because of my experiences in the past, I've had great opportunities of working with Special Needs children of which is a grea example of finding the way the child learns best. I love teaching children and I love learning along with them as well. I love HANDS-ON learning, allowing the child(ren) to explore in order to learn about the subjects and about themselves as well. I know I've made a difference in children's lives in the past and plan on continuing this in the future (every day I have this opportuniy with my own 4 children )!!

More About This Tutor...

I see my job as that of facilitator: the student is there, the information is there, and the student is the learner. I'm just there to guide, explain, provide details, clarify, relate new information to existing knowledge, etc. The student has to be "in charge," so to speak. I can't force knowledge into someone's mind, it has to be learned, but I can help make that information real and relevant to provide the motivation to learn. I'm very attentive to affective factors (stress, irrelevance, animosity, etc.) that can impede learning, and I strive to provide a learning environment that will foster a love of learning and scholarship. I want to make a difference in the lives of our youth and provide them with the tools and opportunities to succeed.
