Everything in life has a Sign! What is you sign?

I am hands on and easy going. I make learning fun, the people I have tutored in the past have truly learned and remembered everything I have shown them. I find easy funny ways to remember things.
I started learning sign language when I was eight years old. I became friends with a boy who was deaf, we grew up together. I then went on to complete my degree in American Sign Language from Bishop State. After Bishop State, i moved on to atten the University of South Alabama for elementary education. I interpret every year at Bayfest. This is a great experience, it is fun and exciting. I have a youtube account and a blog site I use for sign language. I also have books and videos all materials needed to learn the language.

A Little Bit About Me...

Centers, Reading First, Everyday Math, Guided Reading and Phonics. I have a long resume of different programs I have been involved in teaching. I adore children having 2 grown children and five grandchildren. Teaching is a passion to me. I believe every child has the ability to learn with a loving and caring teacher.
I have taught all grades K-8 while tutoring after-school programs. Reading, Language Arts and Math. I have worked for the State Department in Mississippi training teachers both in Elementary and High School. Reading has always been the part of teaching that I seemed to have put my whole heart into. I have had some very high reading scores on the national reading test with my students.

More About This Tutor...

I believe a "hands-on" approach is the best way to retain knowledge given all learning styles. If we do it, we will remember it. If learning is considered fun, we want to do it and all subject areas can have an element of fun. Positive reinforcement within a structured environment is my style of classroom management and it works. If a student knows what is expected, knows the consequences, and knows it will be consistent every time, problems decerase.
Following the birth of my third child, I taught at her pre-school and caught the teaching "bug". I then completed a graduate program in Elementary Education, taught for one year in the public school system in Florida and then taught for one year in Alabama. I believe that a teacher should be willing to do whatever is necessary for the student to understand the concept(s) being discussed. Students all learn different things in different ways. I have taught a wide range of students both in ages and in ethic backgrounds. I believe that any subject can be taught and understood in taught in a fashion best understood my the student.
I have worked both as a substitute teacher and as a certified teacher for around 15 years. I have taught a variety of different courses. I was certified to teach all sciences grades 7-12. However my certification has expired. I have taught both in the private and public sectors of education. I graduated a member of Kappa Delta Pi, as an international honor society.
