I believe all students have the ability to succeed. In my experience, the most important thing to remember is that all students learn differently, and sometimes what seems like an impossible task just needs to be presented differently for better understanding. Relating the material to situations and applications that are relevant and familiar to that particular student is a much more productive and beneficial way to have students retain information. I've always loved to read, I inhereited it from my father who got it from his father. I'm an avid writer as well. The best way to teach someone is to guide them when they come to a road block, rather than to give them the answer. I have found, through teaching a wide variety of people a wide variety of subjects, that there is no one way to reach someone. Everyone has individual strengths and weaknesses. What I have found, however, is requisite to meet the needs of all students is respect for the learner. Without the requisite respect and encouragement, struggling students find it easy to give up and continue to believe that they aren't able to learn the material being presented.
