I have worked in education in some form since 1996 when I started as a campus supervisor at Twin Peaks Middle School. During the six years I worked at TPMS, I tutored students, co-facilitated support groups, and taught summer school classes. At Chapman University, I completed a BA in Social Science in 2002 and a single-subject credential in Social Science a year later. From 2003 to 2004 I worked as a substitute for the Poway Unified School District. All students have a variance in their learning style but I have found a cognitive apprenticeship/constructivist approach is a good style to start with. I show the student how to accomplish a task, then we accomplish a similar task together, and finally, the student shows me how to accomplish the task, with my guidance if necessary. This way, I really learn how the student thinks and comprehends information. All students need extra help sometimes. I happen to be a guy who loves to provide that help.
