Marine Biology is one of my top subjects!

I have worked in the aquarium industry for 19years. I have indepth knowledge, practical skills related to the marine science field. I grew up in a VA suburb of Washington, DC and spent my summers and holidays from college as a page, intern, and tour guide in the US Capitol. I have a passion for learning that I would love to share with students in need. My most recent job as Associate Curator at the Georgia Aquarium required that I have indepth knowledge of a wide variety of marine and freshwater habitats, ecology, fish ID, water chemistry, and management of a team of biologist.

A Little Bit About Me...

I taught in public school and private. While doing so and during summers, I tutored on my own. I got married in 1986, had three children and stayed out of the classroom for a while. I homeschooled my own children and began an ACCREDITED highschool for home schoolers. I taught and tutored all subjects. I have also worked with several learning disabled children. I can teach/tutor pretty much any subject ages K-college. I have also worked in the Writing Lab at Clayton State College. I feeel very qualified for this job.
I love children of all ages, including Middle School and Highschool. I do not alweats go by the book. I do what I feel is best for that particular child's learning style. I teach outside the box and encourage learning rather than straight memorization. I help children love learning.

My teaching style is based on the student’s learning style. Each child is different and may require different teaching methods to facilitate learning. Some children are more visual and may require more interactive exercises to learn. I do not believe in spoon-feeding information to children but taking the time to ensure that they fully grasped the concept of a problem and are able to think through a solution on their own. I will work to develop their critical thinking skills and will challenge them, so that they are not just passive learners but active participants in the cognitive process.
