In high school, I was the typical overachiever. I played varsity baseball, led many school organizations, and was at the top of my class. School, especially math subjects, came easy to me, but that is not the case with everyone. Therefore, I wanted to find a way to help students in these areas. I began teaching in the Valdosta City School System also being a reading teacher for students with problems. Gwinnett County School System (1974-1990). I conducted workshops on teaching reading and writing to Kdg.-1st graders. I received inservice training classes in writing, reading, and mentoring young teachers. In 1990, I moved to Fayette County and I began my 15 year teaching career in this county. I helped devise a curriculum for our 3rd graders which integrated all subject areas into units.
