All learning starts with a question, both by teacher and student alike. My role is both as teacher (coach and guide) and student (questioner). I should employ a variety of questioning techniques to better understand strengths and weaknesses, then prescribe remedies tailored for individual strengths and weaknesses, facilitating the learning process and desired outcome. Most people know intuitively how they learn, as well as which modalities work best for them. I graduated from Florida State University in 2004 with a B.A. in Spanish and Italian with a minor in French. I have been tutoring with the Modern Language Department since 2001 and tutor in all three languages. I also spent a month in Spain teaching English to native Spanish speakers. As an undergraduate, I was involved with the America Reads program, where I was a reading coach/language arts tutor to elementary and middle school children. I am also qualified in tutoring basic math and college prep math.
As a teacher/tutor, I find that being a good listener and paying attention to students needs creates a successful learning environment. While living overseas in both Ukraine and Mexico I taught ESL through a non-profit organization for 4 1/2 years. In addition to teaching beginning, intermediate, and advanced classes to students of all ages, I did extensive one on one tutoring with students, and eventually conducted all new teacher training.
