Although I have a great deal of dance experience, tap is certainly my forte and my favorite kind of dance. I began tapping at age two and continued tapping through college with the UNC-CH Starheels Dance Company. I have three years experience teaching and choreographing tap to children and adults of all ages. I practice a more traditional, jazzy style of tap, however, I am also acquainted with 'street' style tap. I have a degree in English and Creative Writing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and have two years experience writing for the Daily Tar Heel. I have also completed internships with the local NPR station, WUNC, and with the organization AGRADU (Advocates for Grassroots Development in Uganda). I believe that children must be engaged in the subject matter before successful learning takes place. Finding fun, interesting, and personal ways for the child to connect to the topic will truly allow them a chance to learn and retain information. I love finding different ways for individual learners to understand what they are being taught. I am a senior in the Education program at Appalachian State University. As an Elementary Education major, I have worked closely with children from many age levels. I have participated in an after-school tutor/mentor program at Appalachian State in 2008. In 2009, I completed two internships while in the Education Program. One working with 2nd grade students and the other with 5th grade students. I have always thought of myself as a progressive teacher. I always thought children could learn to do anything they were asked to do.
