I am a second year UW Madison student pursuing a math degree. I have completed Calculus 1, Calculus 222, Calculus 234, Calculus 3 based engineering statistics, and Actuarial Science (a class designed to prepare actuarial students for the P exam). Next semester I will take Linear Algebra and the Basic Concepts of Math. I enjoy working with young people very much, and I have an intense passion for math, so I have chosen to pursue a career in Math education. Teaching has been a lifelong practice of mine, whether in a job by choice or in my life by happenstance. I consider myself a natural teacher. I taught Sunday school in high school. I then went on to get a degree in education from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. I taught several years at the preschool level. Since having my son, I have spent many hours volunteering in the public schools. I understand that due to the sheer numbers and environment of our schools, there are many children that may get lost in the system. During my enrollment at the University of Arizona in Tucson, I tutored several students in advanced psychology courses as well as advanced English composition courses to undergraduates. I graduated from the University of Arizona with honors--a member of Psi Chi National Honor Society in Psychology and a memmber of Golden Key National Honor Society. After graduation, I tutored a high school student in geometry. Lately, I have been tutoring a fifth-grade student in math and reading.
I believe that applications to everyday life should be stressed if a tutor/teacher is to pique the interest of their student(s). I love working with people, and anyway that I can help them learn better makes me feel better. I have children of my own and help them out with school work. I don't have a wide teaching experience but I do enjoy working and helping Elementary or junior high leveled children. Ay my most recent job, I worked in a dept called 'PLAYLAND" where I was responsible for taking care and keeping the children of our customers entertained and busy as their parent's shopped for groceries. I have also assisted a choir class in high school for kids around my age at the time.
