My comments on tutoring GED : Know most req. subjects well

I have taught internship classes and tutored statistics at the University level. I have tutored mathematics from elementary to calculus at a junior college. I have been a GRE instructor for the Stanley Kaplan company I founded, owned and operated the Idaho School of Professional Hypnosis for 10 years, teaching hypnosis and hypnotherapy at a professional level. I co-developed the curriculum, designed the teaching strategy, and was the lead instructor.
I use the Socratic method, meeting the students where they are, and using gentle questioning to build on that base. After a long carreer as an engineer in electronic and semiconductors design, I have been teaching K-12 in the Meridian School district specially at Galileo Math and Science Magnet School. I have been involved in offering educational services since I was in high school, when I tutored younger students in math, Spanish, research writing, and general elementary subjects. A career in education was a natural choice, and I have taught both ESL and Spanish, with experience in elementary and secondary teaching, as well as teaching online.
Having taught small and large classes, as well as one-on-one, I am a firm believer in the benefit that one-on-one and small group instruction can offer for students. As a teacher, I love being able to identify and capitalize on students' interests and strengths. A Little Bit About Me...

None of my family had gone to college, so it was predicted I would not either. I had a hunger to learn, so I systematically worked full-time and studied part-time, earning eight major degrees in cities where they alowed residency rquirements to be met in such a way. I was young and energetic, so it was a lot of work, but a joy. It took about 15 years to finally earn my doctorate. Along the way, I earned certification in a half dozen fields (especially loved English, social stuides, and psychology). I was employed for decades in education, teaching full-time for five years, often teaching on the side when I was counselor or administrator. I was formerly a high school English Teacher and an ESL teacher. I taught one year overseas teaching English as a second language. For two years, I was an education supervisor at the Hawaii Job Corps, and it was my job to ensure that the students' academic needs were being met. I excelled at that job, but had to leave as I moved back to the mainland. I worked as both a tutor and a teacher for many years (10) and loved my career. I am a strong believer in the Socratic style of teaching which, as you know, helps students themselves to think through issues and problems and discover the answer as we move along. I have always enjoyed leading students to that 'eureka' moment where they have grasped a difficult idea or concept, put it in their own words, and communicated it back to me, the teacher. I do believe that most children are capable of this kind of learning, at an appropriate level with their development, and do remember the information better than if they have learned something by rote, but not really understood it.

A Little Bit About Me...

I started as an Adjunct Instructor at ISU for the Geomatics Engineering program for the 2007-2008 school year. Prepare for class setup the curriculum, homework, grading and test for 10-12 students. I went to ITT Technical Institute following that and was offered to Chair School of Drafting & Design. I taught and ran the department for 2 years. I was in charge of 4-10 teachers and 170+ students.
I believe in identifying the learning style of the student which can take some time with some. Are they a visual learner I draw pictures, maps, charts and video; if an audio learner tapes, lecture, youtube, video, etc,.. and if a kinesthetic learner then they need the hands on experience to develop the learning that is needed, so then standing back to guide the thought process without doing it for them.
