What I have discovered about myself is that I learn differently from other people. I am the kind of person who prefers to set aside that assembly instruction manual and put together that Christmas toy by laying out the pieces in an orderly fashion. There is so much pleasure in problem solving. I learn by asking myself questions. I have little patience for mundane drills and memorization if they can be avoided. Each child is different. It is meaningless to say that a child is intelligent. There are many kinds of intelligences. Some children are more intelligent in memorization. Others are intelligent in solving problems. In the summer time during my undergraduate career I worked as a camp counselor and coach in Colorado for children from the ages of 6-18. After completion of my BA I coached at my alma-mater. From there I decided to pursue my graduate education and took a scholarship in the althetic department at the University of Arkansas where I became an academic advisor for the football team for 4 years. In the summers during my graduate career I worked for Sylvan Learning centers. I began as an English teacher and filled in on Math when they were short handed.
