I participated in ROTC and majored in Math and Physics at the University of Colorado. After college, I joined the Air Force and worked in the airfield operations career field. After two years, I was chosen to become an instructor, where I fell in love with teaching. After separating from the military, I substitute taught for a year, primarily focusing on high school math. In 2007, I moved to Las Vegas, and I worked for a Tutoring Club. I taught math and my students ranged in age from 8 years through adult.
I love teaching and working with students of all ages. I particularly enjoy watching a student's eyes light up after catching on to something new. I know all students learn in different ways, but I believe most people learn best when they are relaxed and enjoying themselves. I have a passion for teaching students of all ages, especially 4th grade and up. My teaching style consists of involving the students as much as possible in the learning process because I am a firm believer that students do learn from one another - especially when one student becomes a mentor or reciprocal teacher for another. Discussions are very important because they allow for free expression of opinions and learning opportunities from one another.
When I had the opportunity to design and teach a Vo-Tech. School program from the ground up, I realized my love and passion for teaching and making a difference in the lives of my students. Being semi-retired with lots of time available, I am living out my passion by substitute teaching middle and high school students in my local school district.
