My teaching style adapts to the students current level of knowledge. I always model 2 or 3 problems step by step before asking the student to try a problem. A student is comfortable knowing that I have "their backs" and won't let them be frustrated for long. This gives a student confidence to try problems on their own.

I have taught high school students for five years now. However, I have taught college freshman for a year only. But, I do know what I am doing and I know how to help students. I enjoy helping people, particularly kids. It's a very good feeling to help kids understand so many of the concepts in science, math and computers that tend to stump them. I am an easy going and focused individual. I generally teach kids by relating the subject to something they are interested in. There is a very good example of this in the movie "Big", where Tom Hanks character is teaching algebra to a boy who likes basketball. This is a technique that I use frequently. I believe very strongly that kids need to understand the concepts underlying each problem so they can solve it through understanding and not just rote memorization.

I never give up on a child or an adult. I recently tutored a law enforcement official to help him understand and pass algebra. He didn't think anyone could help him. The schools told me my son would never learn to read or write. He is my only child out of four who reads lengthy books for pleasure. Everyone has a different style of learning. My teaching methods I alter to suit those needs. I spent three years trying to help my dyslexic son learn to read one sentence. I have patience and I love helping people.
