A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that ALL children are capable of learning. It is my responsibility to seek out those methodologies that are most compatible for the children in my care. My administrators usually placed those students who were struggling in my care. I don't believe in using just one "curriculum" but am adept at combining a variety of techniques that will best enable the children find out that they are, indeed, capable of learning! Teaching reading and writing are particular joys to me, as I believe anyone who learns to read has opened up a whole new world. I'm a strong believer in the Gardner's ideas of many different learning styles and types of intelligent. Some students are better audio, tactile, or visual learners. I feel it is the teacher's responsibility to find the best learning style for each student and build on that format through scaffolding. I love nothing better than to see the light bulb go off in a students mind. This also helps them to realize that learning can be a fun adventure.
I've been a special education teacher and held positions in resource and in self-contained rooms. I've taught students with learning problems in reading, math, and writing. I have also worked in the Lights on for Learning program and have been a home tutor for home bound students in the district.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate of Bethel University, I am currently pursuing a teaching career and am committed to excellence. While I was at Bethel, I earned two bachelor degrees, one in Creative Writing and one in Spanish. I assisted numerous friends by copy editing their essays, showing them where I saw they could improve while affirming where I saw their strengths. Each of these friends received A's or B's on their polished work. I also studied in Spain for one semester to complete my degree. I have worked with the Special Needs community for almost five years now, and have worked for ACR Homes in St. Paul, MN and for REM, Iowa besides working as a para-educator for Wickham elementary. I have experience with ODD, OCD, ADD, a little with autism, and other learning disabilities. I also tutored an Introduction to the Bible class.
