Spanish is one of my top subjects! I have taught Spanish 201 and 202 (intermediate level courses) at ISU as a TA, worked as a bilingual customer service rep and hold a Bachelor degree in Spanish (and Sociology) from Drake. I make understanding grammar and other concepts accessible and easy.

I like to begin by ascertaining the level of the student. Learning is best achieved when the student actively takes part, remains focused, engages in dialogue about the material. If teaching a group I enjoy 'interactive lecture/presentation' and group discussion. I employ a variety of mediums (depending on the subject matter to help communicate material. Regarding one on one tutoring, the best method, I believe, is to work with the student to identify what are the concepts that they struggle with and explain/demonstrate these concepts from a variety of different perspectives.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a college graduate, I started my teaching career in a catholic elementary school. I taught second grade for a year and first grade for two years. It was truely rewarding to see students become fluent readers. I relocated and took a position as a special education assosciate. I worked with four special education teachers. I worked with both groups of students and individuals on their IEP progression. After that I spent 13 years as a fourth grade teacher. I taught all subject areas. Wrote curriculum, served on committees, and belonged to educational organizations.
I truely consider myself a life long learner and hope to instill that in all the students I work with. I enjoy helping students become all that they can. A Little Bit About Me...

At Amherst College, we were encouraged to pursue a wide variety of subjects in addition to our major. I studied math for several years, some Biology, Latin and Greek. I had a semester of graduate school at Iowa in Classics. At Tulane, I studied advanced statistics as well as marketing. I had two years of Spanish at DMACC. I also studied Bosnian and German at DMPS Continuing Education. For all standardized tests, I always scored in the top 1% including the PSAT, SAT, ACT and GMAT. I have been tutoring students in Spanish, English Literature, Chemistry, Math and Government.
I really enjoy getting people of all ages to learn. My day job is with Easter Seals where I work with all ages and disabilities.
