A Little Bit About Me...

I've taught basic English Composition for 30 years in a variety of settings including traditional, non-traditional, and proprietary undergraduate programs; additionally I've taught entry level graduate writing/research and served as department director/administrator in both traditional and prorietary settings. I've worked in tutoring/writing centers at various schools and individually tutored students ranging from middle school to PhD level throughout my teaching career. Additionally, I've volunteered in other situations as well including 4-H, Explorers (BSA), Habitat for Humanity, and other non-profit situations and served as an elected official.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a seeker of truth with an acute interest in human nature, cognition and development, I am naturally drawn to education of today’s children to help construct the foundation for a sustainable tomorrow. I have earned two bachelor degrees, a BA in Philosophy and BA in Anthropology, which has enabled me to gain insight in the acquisition and development of thought, language and literacy. During the last nine years in the classroom I have learned and used practical teaching strategies and have taught students developmental strategies in literacy, math, science, and philosophy. I have always enjoyed working with children and knew I would want a career working with kids to help enhance their futures. While still in high school, I worked after-school tutoring elementary age students in a wide variety of subjects. After working with that tutoring program for some months I filled in the position of head tutor and was in charge of assigning students to tutors and overseeing the overall running of the after-school program. After receiving my BS in Psychology I worked as an Educational Assistant in a special education class at a middle school (grade 6-8) in Hawaii. There I further developed my tutoring experience working with older students, mostly in mathematics and basic sciences.
