While earning my MA in English at California State University, Fresno, I spent two exciting years teaching beginning college writing. I chose to teach the class for students who did not pass the entrance exam for Fresno State because I enjoyed working with the diverse, and primarily ESL, students who populated these classes. I also spent three years tutoring many terrific students there in reading and essay writing. I believe that learning can be fun when it is relevant and interactive. Students have to be given a vested interest in the learning process, asked questions.
