A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated summa cum laude from Berea College with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. I haven taken many courses in biology and chemistry. I am also very proficient in algebra and trigonometry, and I have taken one course in calculus. As a high school student I worked in an after school program tutoring children in grades 3 to 8 in reading and math. During college I volunteered in “one-on-one tutoring” where I met weekly with a student to tutor her in basic math. I also worked as a teaching assistant in the biology department of my college.
My teaching style varies depending on the age and needs of the student. When I worked with younger children, I often made up a game to help the children learn the material while having fun. A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught in all elementary grade levels. I taught preschool for 2 years, taught kindergarten 1 year, taught 7-8 grade remedial Math for 1 year. I then taught in the same K-12 school for 28 years. I taught the 4th grade for 26 years where I taught English, Reading, Writing, and Social Studies. I was the writing KERA trainer and portfolio writing leader and trainer for my school. I was selected as Teacher of the Year for my school 2 times. I was on the Site Based Decision Making Council for 2 terms. I am retired and was a substitute teacher for 5 years.
I feel each child is unique, so their learning style is unique. I graduated with a BA in English Literature from Berea College. Berea is known for its rigorous academic program. I worked in the Public Relations Office as a News Writer, doing research and writing news releases for upcoming events. Post graduation, I’ve edited a book manuscript for the author, Normandi Ellis. I have also revised student’s application essays for graduate school. In addition, my Mom, who is a school teacher in Michigan, will sometimes email me grammar-related questions. I have been accepted into graduate school and will pursue further education so that I may teach at the college/graduate level.
