I have ten years of experience tutoring at both the K-12 and the college levels. I also have experience adapting to the needs of students with various learning styles and learning disabilities. I have eight years of experience as a college history instructor, 3 years as a rater for advance placement history, and I will be receiving my Ph.D. in history in 2016. I am experienced in US and World History. Furthermore, I have taught college honors writing and writing intensive history. I think the best way to teach is to show students how they can break down problems and find answers to questions that may, at first glance, seem overwhelming. I have yet to meet someone who is incapable of grasping a subject, and I am able to stay calm and remain patient as students begin to expand their knowledge in areas that are new to them. While I am not able to learn things for a student, my job as a tutor is to provide them with the encouragement, support, and knowledge that I have so that they can obtain an understanding of their subject.
As a recent college graduate, the stress, confusion, and (ultimately) joy involved in the attempt to master new subjects are fresh in my memory. My style is discipline, thorough learning and practice. My best asset in tutoring would be communicating with my students.
