A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked quite a lot with elementary school children, whether it be in or outside of work. I have done independent tutor work, mainly in the fields of Art and Language Arts. In the past I had a long-term job in which I was required to interact with young children, and I did so willingly. For two years in a row, I taught a Beginner's Guitar course for children and the feedback I received was overwhelmingly positive. Poetry is one of my top subjects! In addition to having taught English at the middle and high school levels for 18 years, I have been a poet myself for more than 40 years.

English and Writing CAN be Fun!

The collaborative learning approach, where students are encouraged to discuss what and how they're learning, is most effective. Students tend to engage much better with course material when the instructor has discussions with them, as opposed to lecturing at them.

I enjoy working with young children, and helping them to understand the subject and how to apply it in their daily life. My overall goal is to help the child understand for their own good. It defeats the purpose if the child can do math or english while I am sitting right next to them. A Little Bit About Me...

I have several years experience working in the public school system but currently work in the juvenile justice system teaching adjudicated youth English Langauge Arts. I earned my BA in History and English from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 2005. I completed my teaching certification requirements the same year and hold a Michigan Teacher's Certification in both ENG and HIST at the secondary level. While attending classes, I worked with kids at all age levels and have tutored 1st graders to seniors in high school.
