Spanish is one of my top subjects! At 16 I decided I needed to see the world so I moved to Argentina as an exchange student. I spent a year learning both the culture and language of the country. I was able to travel a lot and really felt like a member of their society. I have a bachelors degree in Spanish and I also spent a second 6 months in Costa Rica and an additional month in Peru.

I have always been a very curious and academic person. I love to learn and like to pass that on to my students. It makes it easier because I have really lived a lot of the things I teach. I grew up in a small town in Idaho and excelled in both my Math and Science classes. At 16 I decided I needed to see the world so I moved to Argentina as an exchange student. My comments on tutoring Spanish : I have taken 2 years of college Spanish. I have been implementing Spanish into my classroom curriculum for over 10 years. My translation ability is better than my speaking. I have passed many Spanish proficiency tests. I am comfortable helping at an elementary or beginning level.

I start out with discussing the area of weakness with the student and then try to investigate why this might be the area of weakness. Once this is discovered, I teach the student (through examples) until they understand the topic with which they need help. Then, I observe how they perform without my guidance and see if they have learned to complete problems solo.

Learning never ceases; so, why should you?

My teaching style is a mixture of strict and lenient. I try to form a connection with students and apply that to my teaching method (i.e. incorporating a similar hobby in a question in order for the student to understand the material better). I expect my students to give me and the other students respect- never speaking while others are speaking, no disruptions, ect. This method of teaching has shown effective and a fun learning environment. I base my curriculum around the importance of reading. Reading is the easiest and most effective way of obtaining knowledge and using it in the world.
