As a Canisius College graduate, I was very motivated to practice different teaching approaches. With my passion to incorporate/integrate technology into my lessons, students will gain a better grasp/understanding of how business is used in everyday life. I doubled majored in Business and Accounting at Thiel College, which has given me a wide spectrum of knowledge of the business world. I enjoy watching others learn and come to the realization that they can achieve their goals. My teaching/tutoring style is relaxed and pro-active. The more the student discovers on their own with only a little coaching and encouragement will last longer than if someone shows every step. I believe in a practical hands one real world method. If what the student is learning is not relavent to the real world and their lives they are less likely to learn it. I have 2 Years of teaching First Aid/ CPR/ AED at the American Red Cross. Math is learned by doing, but in attempting to do something you haven't really learned yet you're probably going to get stuck. A math tutor's job is to get you unstuck (or in some cases get you started). Sometimes that's just pointing out mistakes, and sometimes there's a weak spot in your background that needs cleared up before you can go any further. It's not easy, but I think anyone can learn math, even advanced math, but you have to start with a solid foundation. My teaching approach for other subjects is somewhat different, but still mostly consists of alternating between explaining/demonstrating and assisted practice. I've had more than 15 years of experince in teaching college-level Math courses ranging from Intermediate Algebra to Differential Equations and Real Analysis.
