It is most important to communicate respect and find natural ways to empower each student so that they feel good about their ability to meet the goals ahead. I encourage critical thinking and often use picture and story associations to improve memory recall. I love teaching and engaging with people of all ages. Everyone learns in a different way, and it is kind of exciting to see how people think and try to connect with them.
