ALL STUDENTS WELCOME!

Whenever I can, I like to be very hands-on in my teaching my students. For example, once I was teaching my class about trees. I had them go outside and collect samples of bark which had fallen on the ground. Then we created a gigantic mural in my classroom and glued the pieces of bark to a tree we had drawn.
I have been a self-employed Tutor since April, 2006. Special needs and home schooled students are welcomed. Nothing makes me happier than when I see the smiles on the faces of my students when they succeed rather than fail. I assist all students in skill building and creating a life-long love of learning. I provide on-going feedback to parents and am happy to work with the teachers of my students.

I am a former attorney, currently in work-release. The undercapitalization of my practice kept me from being able to withstand a series of family financial disasters, and I stole to make ends meet. For this, I take complete personal responsibility. I have been a good, hard worker for my entire life, and I respectfully ask for a second chance. Bonded to $10,000.00.

Hello! I have 15 years of teaching experience in the classroom and have been tutoring now since January of 2012. I have a true passion for teaching! I have taught in the parochial, private, and public schools. I taught at Assumption Catholic School from 1997-2004, English and Reading to 6th-12th grade ESE students at The Broach School from 2004-2008, and Intensive Reading to 11th and 12th graders at Andrew Jackson High School (public inner city urban in Duval County) from 2010-2011. I have also conducted FCAT, ACT, and SAT prep, as well as study skills in the summer months when students don't have schoolwork! While in the classroom my average student came up 3-4 grade levels in a year in reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, spelling, and language mechanics. A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching. As the father of two five-year-old twins, I love children too. I believe in using conventions in which my students can relate, meeting them on their individual level of understanding. Through patient consideration and persistence in seeking out and finding methods and explainations that work, I believe that all students are able to reach their learning goals and come to love knowledge.
I graduated from the University of North Florida with BA degrees in English Literature and Economics. I have taught a variety of subject matter, including an extra-curricular boxing class for the University boxing club and adult sunday school class for the church I attended. I tutored my Turkish-immigrant friend, assisting him in his studies for his General Equivalency Diploma.

My goal as a tutor is to work with each student individually, primarily focusing on areas in which he/she may view as a challenge to their learning experience. Each student adapts to information differently, so I tend to identify creative and unique ways to overcome their weaknesses. This is what makes the learning experience fun and most of all rewarding.
Throughout my college career, I have always been involved in community based programs in which I've served as a mentor and tutor to elementary students. I have been actively tutoring at the Long Branch Elementary school here in Jacksonville for about 4yrs. We target students in the 3rd through 5th grades with a primary focus in Reading. Our #1 goal is to prepare the students for the yearly FCAT test. In addition, I also volunteer as a reading and math tutor with the Sanctuary on 8th street. Overall, I feel that my educational bac ... read more

I want children to know that learning is a lifelong experience and that it can be fun! Learning is a process of building blocks, and it is vital for a teacher to find interests and skills upon which to build. Children need to develop learning techniques that work for them, and it is imperative for a teacher to guide them. Children need self-esteem and confidence to be all they can be, whether it is academically or more. Teachers can either be builders or destroyers in this process. I want to be a builder! Nothing excites me more than a child who discovers his/her own ability and soars!

A Little Bit About Me...

I would love to tutor kids as I have a passionate and great charisma to fulfill their need and make them happy. I am very easy going and teach students the easiest possible way to understand a subject and to better themselves in creating a unique style of learning. I believe that if students have a different way of constructing a studying habit differently and more accessible than what the teacher is implementing than it would be easier for the student to adhere to that material and be more familiar with the actual school curriculum. I use a lot of pictures and live examples to make this happen for them. It takes a whole village to raise a child.
I have worked for Church organizations that offered tutoring programs for local children in grades from 4th to 10th grade. I have 2 Associate's Degree one in Business Administration and other in Merchandising. I have volunteered after scho ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

In the years in which I was a classroom teacher I learned more than I had ever picked up from my time in college. I was the inclusion teacher at both grade levels I taught, which meant that the students with exceptionalities were mainstreamed in my my class. As such,I learned to adapt my classroom environment, my teaching syle and my language to accommodate each student's needs, even as I tried to adapt the class to the needs of the regular education students. Wroking with that population broadened my understanding of what it really means to work with students in need.
I enjoy supporting self-discovery in students as I have seen how encouraging it has been for me. To solve a problem which seems at first impossible is so energizing, it can create in a student an intrinsic interest in learning that we as teachers look to impart. That fire is what I work for in teaching.

There are many ways to teach a variety of subjects but connecting the subject with the students life - connected learning is supported by Mary Belenky et al in her book, "Women's Ways Of Knowing." Mary was my professor at Goddard and I have found connecting learning with life experience has been an effective way to get students to understand the subject.Even Frank McCort (Angela's Ashes) describes this technique he used succesfully in his teaching.

I have always been a tutor looking back. My friends were always asking for help with their homework. I enjoyed helping them. I have classroom experience in English, History, general math, and Social Studies.
My teaching style is predicated on the belief that children truly want to learn. I like to introduce the goal or goals for today. Ask a few questions regarding ysterdays assignment and see if the class will bridg the two by itself. I believe that a class os students wiling to learn need only slight direction each day.
