I would describe my teaching style as hands on and according to multiple learning styles. I understand that students learn best when they have the option of working with material objects. I also realize that students all learn in different ways and therefore I try to teach to each student's learning style. If a student doesn't understand it one way, I try to teach it another way so that he/she can learn it.
In 2001, I graduated from IUP with a degree in elementary education. I substitute taught around the South Hills of Pittsburgh for a year, then moved to Virginia, where I taught fifth grade for four years. The first three years were in a public school and the fourth in a private school. I taught all subject areas and skill level abilities.

During that time I was a form teacher, a department chair and won several teaching scholarships including Lingua B, Fulbright Exchange program and the World Bank scholarship. I had been a teacher for 12 years engaging in a multitude of learning styles and methodology. I spent 6 years serving as principal at all levels. I was Director of Education for two years and then served as Superintendent of Schools for two districts for a total of 15 years. During that time I never lost connection with teaching, mentoring students from all levels of education and continued to teach in the classroom at least once a week. I was an adjunct professor for two years at Waynesburg University in Pennsylvania. I retired in 2009 to travel and photograph the country, while living in and RV. I believe that all children learn differently and at different levels and as a teacher, you need to recongize that and adapt your lessons to your students so they can achieve. For social studies, most student think that class is all about taking notes and reading from the book but I put a twist on all of my lessons. I do a lot of group projects, I have the students do presentations for each other on the material and also reanacts of big events to help the students understand what really happened with that specific event and how it impacted history.

While studying at Bradley University, I worked with the CHOICES program tutoring local disadvantaged High School students in core curriculum: History, English, Math, Science, etc. As a French tutor, I volunteered to help my fellow classmates learn the French language. After obtaining my Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Spanish from Bradley University in May of 2006, I continued to provide educational instruction as an AmeriCorps KEYS volunteer.
