Everyone has something to add, especially in the classroom, and should not be overlooked. Linda Albert's model of "Cooperative Discipline" first began to intrigue me when I was introduced to her model in on of my Education courses. I agree whole-heartedly in her approach, which is based around the idea that helping students feel capable and connected will encourage them to contribute to their class and be successful. I find that my aspiration to be a teacher grows stronger through the knowledge that I have the ability to make students feel capable and connected. Every student has something valuable to contribute to the classroom. They may just need a little nudging in order to make that discovery. I love the process of really getting to know a student on an individual level. That is crucial to determine their learning style and their strengths. It is incredibly rewarding to experience a student's progression and also to learn from them in ways you wouldn't expect. I believe children should feel comfortable in an academic setting and believe that they can succeed. It is important to help students develop a positive attitude towards life long learning. I have had a passion for education since I was a third grade student. I always thought I wanted to be a teacher "when I grew up." As a seminary student, I gained a deeper respect for the education process and a greater passion for teaching students. During my time at what is now Lincoln Christian University, I gained a respect for the written word as well as a significant knowledge and usage of the English language.
