My comments on tutoring Calculus I : Calculus is fundamental to the study of Physics. I am exteremely proficient in this form of mathematics.

Problem solving is the best way to learn a technical skill. For instance, in mathematics homework usually consists of a set of problems that the student must solve. By watching how students approach and solve these problems, I can both assess the student's understanding of the material and help them make the logical connections needed to better understand the material. Additionally, I encourage students to adopt the mentality that science and math can actually be fun and a worthwhile use of time.

I adapt my teaching style to fit the particular student. Some students learn visually, so I draw everything out to show them how to approach a certain problem. For some students, repetition is what helps them understand. My senior project researched the process in which adolescents first learn to think abstractly. Stanford's STEP program was an intense year which prepared me very well for classroom teaching.
