Learning's only effective if it's fun.

Thanks for reading my profile. I have tutored French and Spanish at my community college. I have conducted "baby groups" for children 6 mo. - 1 yr in a multi-lingual center for children where I worked in Moscow for three years. I have taught groups of adults English as a Second Language at Inlingua language school in DC. I have taught middle school Russian and Critical Thinking, and college first year Russian while in graduate school. I have worked with children ages 4-10 one-on-one in their homes on a freelance basis, during which time I managed multiple clients and did this full time for an incredibly satisfying profession. Even as a student i helped my fellow students to understand and grasp the subjects they were having difficulty with. i can generaly spinn the information into a subject matter that interests the individual or just explain it in an easier to understand manner, offted they just get lolst in the language of teaching. i minnored in math, and majorred in science and agriculture in high school, ansd took veternary technology in colledge this involved mostly biologies and lab technigues.
i have never taught professionaly, but have assisted fellow students. the methods i useed to help them were ither to incorporate the subject matter into a sumject that they had a personal interest in, or manny time i found that they just didnot understand the language of the subject so i reexplained it in simpler terms and they got it just fine.

Teaching young people and seeing them succeed is such a reward. Many students find the conventional school setting difficult and work with greater success in a one on one setting. Getting to know the student and his or her learning style along with some background enables a tutor to create an atmosphere where the student will be most successful. The student can feel comfortable asking questions, which is not always the case in a traditional classroom. My goal as a tutor is to have a student comfortable and successful!

Teaching and working with children not only educates them but it educates myself in the process. I get to touch up on materials that the children are learning, as well as learn better ways to educate students. Patience is what I believe is the most important aspect of teaching. Children can become unfocused very easily. When children are distracted it may be very difficult to get them focused. Taking your time and making sure they refocus, can actually save time. If they are unfocused and miss a part of what is instructed, they will be confused throughout the whole process. It helps to be patient with the educating process.
